Zell am See is more than skiing

Every year Skimundi sends families to Zell am See to be instructed by our well-trained English speaking instructors. Booking ski school in Zell am See can lead to many benefits and especially the kids will benefit as it increases their safety and confidence. The parents will also profit from an English speaking instructor as it’s easier to ask about the specific resort, village, slopes and other practical information that all in all will make the holiday a better and more memorable experience.

We asked one of our instructors, Laerke why Zell am See is the perfect family ski resort. Laerke has been educated through Snowminds and became a ski instructor back in November 2015.

In your opinion, why is Zell am See such a family-friendly ski resort?

Zell am See is the perfect destination for kids, since it has a wide range of available activities and not all kids want to ski all day. The town of Zell am See has big malls, a school and many other facilities you can find in a larger village. This means that if you don't want to ski all day, you still have numerous activities you can attend to.

Why is Zell am See such a kid-friendly resort?

The kids are entertained on the slopes by the dragon mascot "Schmidolins" who is the guardian of the mountain. When there is enough snow a long funpark is created which is located besides the “Glocknerbahn”. The funpark is perfect for younger children to practice turning and stopping. For bigger kids “Sonnenalm” has a more challenging funpark and a slalom course with gates. A couple of times during the season the skis schools organize an event called Glühwürmchenlauf, where all ski instructors together with their (ski school) kids ski down a slope that is lit by torches. Apart from the activities on the slope, you can also find a swimming pool and a ice rink in Zell am See.

What kind of weekly activities and events are arranged by the ski school?

The ski school in Zell am See is very kid-friendly. The directors and ski instructors have a certain understanding of the kids and their needs. At the Areitbahn you’ll find the "Bing Kids Land" with different obstacles like animals, dragons, and a big ski bunny. In the morning, the ski instructors receive training, both for their own skiing but also on how to instruct the guests - especially kids. Because of this the instructors will always be up to speed and be able to provide the kids with the latest and most fun games. "Schmidolin", the mascot is always ready for skiing or a dance throughout the day.

Tips and tricks for the ski holiday in Zell am See?

For young kids and beginners, the Areitbahn part of the resort is optimal. There is a full focus on kids and the instructors are trained to take care of kids from all different nationalities.

For intermediate skiers, the “CityXpress” is a good starting point. The lift provides an easy access to the more challenging slopes, where the more experienced skier can enjoy the snow and progress with or without the guidance of an instructor.

Further, the city center is really cosy and the walking street with many shops and cafes is definitely worth a visit.

Three "must-do" experiences in Zell am See?

The restaurant Kupferkessel is at the outskirts of the city and in the direction of Kaprun. It is a lovely family restaurant known for its fantastic Wienerschnitzel (traditional Austrian dish). Zeller See is a lake in the centre of town and is definitely suited for a nice hiking trip or winter stroll, and especially when the sun is shining.

“Pinzgauer Hütte” is located on the back of the mountain. The traditional cosy hut hidden by trees and bushes, has an amazing view over all surrounding mountains. Here you’ll undoubtedly feel like being in the middle of nowhere and their dish “Tirolergröstl” is a must try. On top of that the journey home is usually done on a snow scooter!
